Hop on for free rides around KK until January 2026 – no fares and no hassle

31 Oct – Public buses are back in Sabah! The Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) initiative for Kota Kinabalu (KK) is finally in motion, bringing reliable public bus services to KK.

This initiative aims to make public transportation a convenient and accessible option for everyone in KK. It officially launched on 10 October 2025 with a free trial period running until January 2026. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Transportation, the SBST initiative has already proven successful in cities like Seremban, Kuching, and Kangar.

The service currently runs on Route S05, one of eight routes planned for the full launch. BAS.MY, the company operating the buses, announced on their official Facebook page that starting 25 October, there are eight daily trips available on this route. Route details and timings are provided below.

The S05 route’s first stop is KK Sentral. Starts at 6.00 AM and runs every 2 hours (Free until January 2026)

Good news for commuters. Concession cards are available for students, university students, seniors and OKU cardholders. Working adults can opt for a RM50 monthly pass for unlimited travel.
