This is the Kadazan traditional costume of Papar.

They usually wear a short jacket with gold or silver buttons over a white blouse. Their knee-length skirt is decorated with a horizontal and vertical cross-stitched panel lined with gold thread.

Did you know you can always tell the marital status just by looking at their traditional costume? This is a great tip just in case you’re trying to make your move. The hat the women wear is called Siyung. If the hat has feathers on top means they are single. Siyung with flowers means married, while plain Siyung means widowed, grandmother, or elderly. Another hint is the silver belt (antique British trade dollar), unmarried ladies wear four, and married wear two.
