The North Borneo War Monument, the oldest monument in Sabah, is an obelisk placed within the city park of Kota Kinabalu. Built on May 8th 1923, this monument was first to commemorate the fallen British soldiers during World War I but later extended to include the Australian soldiers in World War II and the Malaysian armed forces sacrificed during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation from 1963 to 1966.
