Wakid is a traditional handwoven multipurpose basket that originated from Ranau and Tambunan. It is used by the Kadazandusun people to carry fruits, vegetables, and other products.
Usually, a wakid is made out of rattan, bamboo or tree barks. By using one of these materials, it is capable of accommodating up to 70 kilogramme and is durable with some used for years.
You can find the Wakid baskets all throughout the many handicraft markets throughout Sabah. The basket ranges from various styles and sizes, and there are even miniature versions of them.
