In Kundasang there’s a small and cozy spot where you can meet real alpacas up close. It’s located along Jalan Cinta Mata Mesilou, just a short drive from Desa Dairy Farm, it is called the Alpaca Club. The alpacas were brought in from Australia back in 2020, making this only place in Sabah where you can see them in person.
In this farm, you can see multiple baby and young alpacas otherwise referred as Cria, as well as fully grown alpacas, all have different shades of fleece. With their longer slim necks, fluffy tufts, and slightly droopy eyes, they look almost like llamas, just a furrier, gentler, and more adorable version of them.
There’s no need to book ahead, as you can just walk in and buy your ticket at the counter, it’s price ranges from RM2 for kids to RM15 for adult. Each visit lasts around 20 minutes, giving you time to feed, pet, and take photos with the alpacas. The staff are friendly and will guide you on how to interact with the animals safely.
You’ll also find other animals on site, including rabbits and guinea pigs, which makes the place even more enjoyable for families with children. These small animals are kept in their own section, where visitors can feed and interact with them just like the alpacas.
The area is small but clean, and on clear day you can catch a nice view of Mount Kinabalu in the background. The ground can get muddy after rain, so it’s best to wear comfortable shoes. It also gets busier on weekends, so dropping by early in the morning makes for a quieter visit and better photos.
If you’d like to make your trip last a little longer, the Alpaca Club also offers two homestay rooms for overnight stays. Each unit can fit up to six guests and comes with basic cooking facilities and a barbecue area. Guests staying overnight also enjoy free access to the alpaca farm, which is a cozy option for those wanting to experience Kundasang’s cool weather a bit longer.
