No prizes for guessing how the Batu Sapi constituency in the district of Sandakan got its name. It is from this three-legged rock formation called Batu Sapi that literally translates to Bull Rock.

Naturally created by water erosion, current, and waves over millions of years, it now stands at the estuary surrounded by mangroves, south of Sandakan city.

North Borneo Philately had shared a picture of Batu Sapi from a bygone era, and it is interesting to note that the British had named it Elephant Rock.
