Meet the beautifully feisty Bornean Keeled Pit Viper
Formerly part of the Wagler’s Pit Viper species complex, the Bornean Keeled Pit Viper was elevated to species status in 2007. They are venomous snakes with heat-sensing pits on the sides of the head allowing them the ability to detect body heat and strike with pinpoint accuracy even in total darkness. These snakes are exclusively arboreal species (living in trees) and can be seen at heights ranging from low vegetation to mid-canopy levels. Their diet comprises birds and arboreal rodents.
