The magnificent Sigah Roundabout stands proud as an iconic landmark in Penampang.
For those who don’t know, Sigah is a Kadazandusun traditional headgear made from handwoven kain dastar, folded in a number of distinctive ways. In the past, prominent Kadazandusun men wore the Sigah. It is also worn when one meets a prominent person to show your respect.
The roundabout is located along the main passageway between Penampang and the interior Tambunan district, but a Donggongon-Tambunan flyover may soon displace the Sigah statue to ease the traffic congestion at the intersection during peak-hours. We will surely miss our Sigah when that day comes.
