If you ever come across something bright that seems like little fairy lights while wandering around the forest, don’t get too excited because you most probably found foxfire fungus.

These bioluminescence fungi are also called fairy fire or chimpanzee fire that usually grows on rotting wood and emits a mesmerizing bluish-greenish glow effect as soon as the sun goes down.

Although the light from the fungi are normally dim, if you’re lucky, you might see some that are bright enough to use as natural reading light.

There are around 80 species currently known worldwide and can mostly be found in temperate and tropical climates.
