The Petagas War Memorial was built in remembrance of those who lost their lives defending Sabah during the Japanese occupation in World War II, located on the exact spot where 176 Sabahan guerillas were massacred on January 21st, 1944.

Beautiful plaques are inscribed with the names of those who died, with well-kept lawns surrounding the area. Every year, a memorial service is held here on January 21st to commemorate those who fought and fell during the war.
